People often ask me what the key elements where that helped me improve my golf game so quickly. The first thing to remember in golf is that technique is everything and technique takes practice. If we don’t have the patience to practice then our game will not progress. Here are a few tips on how to improve golf game and master some of those basic moves.
Alignment:
The first thing to get to grips with is your alignment. This includes your feet, knees, forearms, shoulders and eyes; they should all be fixed adjacently to the target line. If you were to stand behind a golfer it would as if the ball was slightly off centre, this is due to the fact that the ball has been lined up with the target but the body has remained slightly off the target. Don’t be surprised if people keep telling you that you haven’t lined yourself up correctly; take the advice on board because the right alignment is vital to improve your golf swing.
Foot Positioning:
Once you have your alignment in place, the next aspect to concentrate on is your feet. For middle irons the feet should be shoulder width apart. The target-side foot should be pointed towards the target; this will allow the body to swing towards its objective at the time of the downswing. The back foot should be kept square which will allow the hip to turn on the backswing. Foot positioning is vital as flexibility and speed stem from having the correct stance.
Ball Positioning:
The position of your ball will vary depending on the club you select. For short irons place the ball in the centre of your stance.
Balance:
Place your body weight on the balls of your feet whilst avoiding putting pressure on the heels or toes. For short irons it’s recommended that you place 60% of your weight on the target foot (the foot nearest to the target).
Posture:
Bend the knees slightly and make sure they are in line with the balls of your feet; this will help maintain the correct balance. Bend your body from the hips not from the waist; a protruding bottom is a clear indication that you are doing this correctly.
My game has benefited greatly from these tips and I am sure yours will too.

Quality online golf tips are a rare commodity, so I tend to hang around the clubhouse chatting to the pros, semi-pros and veterans to pick up pointers for my game. It has cost me a fair few drinks but all in all it has been a worthwhile investment. In the absence of great online golf tips I have decided to share my new found knowledge and offer you the two gems below.
One Huge Simple Step to a Better Golf Swing
One pointer that pops up time and time again is something so very simple yet I guess you could say psychological. The moment you arrive on the golf course you need to centre your mind on the task in hand – and that is playing a positively good round of golf. Play your golf swing over and over in your mind until it is a perfected vision. This technique is called positive visualization. When you line up to take your shot the only thing on your mind should be the target – concentrate on exactly where you want to hit the ball. Believe it or not many people find it difficult to keep their mind on the target when they swing.
Strengthening a Weak Golf Grip
Whilst it is true that pro golfers have varied grips, some stronger than others, in general a weak grip can lead to an open clubface and a subsequent slicing of the ball. If you are slicing the ball or even losing control of the club then you should strengthen your forearms. Do this by buying a hand gripper that provides resistance training to the forearm and wrist. Do 100 reps on each hand per day and within a month you will improve golf game by a solid 10%.

Recently I have been approached by a number of people asking me whether I have any secret golf driving tips to share. In light of this I thought I would scribble down some valuable information for the up and coming golfer community.
Go Long and Narrow
It is no shame to struggle with your driving, it took me ages to master a straight drive, but the secret was to first improve my golf swing, from there everything fell into place. When driving, go for short and wide, not long and narrow. Longer swings will not generate longer tee shots, this is a myth, in fact all you do is lose control of the shot and end up with an off-center drive. Your arms should not be too narrow either, extend your arms away from your body allowing for more width. When you are too narrow the angle of the shot become too steep.
Practice Your Technique Incessantly
To learn golf properly we must practice not just on the course but anywhere we get the chance. Golf is essentially about technique, the correct wrist hinge, the strategic three quarter swing and the correct body rotation. I practiced these things for months in order to improve my golf game.
Golf Requires Fitness
Consistent longer drives also materialize as a result of fitness. It is logical that the fitter you are the more you will be able to apply consistent energy and correct technique to your strokes. Contrary to popular belief golf is not a lazy game; mentally it is draining due to the technique and concentration involved, and physically walking the course and driving shots all day is hard-going. So practice, practice, practice as my piano teacher used to say, and, in addition to practice, fitness, fitness, fitness!

I know how you feel, you’ve probably been trawling for tips on how to fix a golf slice for ages and not come across anything with real substance. Well, you’ve stumbled across the right place because I don’t hold back on my golf tips. I was a frustrated amateur at one stage who couldn’t get ahead in the game because other golfers didn’t want to help. I am no longer an embarrassment to those I play with and win confidently against my buddies.
Master the Simple Golf Swing
The reason so many people slice the ball is because they are focussing on hitting the ball too hard, God knows I did that for over a year! Don’t try and whack it as hard as you can, bring the club back steadily and increase the acceleration gradually as you come back down gliding through the stroke as opposed to aggressively attacking the ball. Flow through the stroke rather than pulling the club away after you have hit the ball. The club should finish up over your opposite shoulder – this is the final part of the complete action. Go for technique over power in the initial stages.
Master a Fluid Alignment
Alignment is everything so forget power for now. Look at the ball and then look where you want the ball to go – visualise the flight of the ball and physically look down the air stream through which you want the ball to travel. Don’t lose sight of this vision as you swing, keep focussed on the alignment. There should be a comfortable alignment between your club on impact, the ball and the target; if these three aspects of your golf alignment are in place you will achieve good placement on the fairway and after a few shots the green will be in sight.
Practice your swing and alignment without a ball as golf drills outside of your game. You can do this in the garden, garage or even in the office!

When I first started playing golf I often wondered what the essential points were to improving my golf game. The more I played and observed other golfers the clearer things became. I soon realised that the first thing I needed to do was improve my golf swing speed.
Increasing Swing Speed:
I had previously heard friends and fellow golfers talk about swing speed but had never fully grasped what it was they were talking about. I knew that any talk on swing speed usually referred to long drives, however, how to actually implement the technique still remained somewhat of a mystery to me. Although I did realise very quickly that hitting the ball as hard as I could was not the answer, all that happened was my body tightened up resulting in my swing actually becoming slower. One afternoon an older more experienced golfer approached me and suggested I try a few things differently.
The first thing he pointed out was that speed comes from the golfer’s core not his arms or shoulders. Like most sports if athletes are trying to build speed and power it’s the core section of their bodies they work on. The stronger and more flexible I made my core the faster my hands and club would swing through. This created longer and quicker drives. I took a moment to look around the course and noticed the stance of all the other golfers; the whole motion was in essence fully rotational.
Try These Swing Speed Increasing Exercises
My new mentor left me with a few basic exercises that would help to improve my swing speed. The one I often practice is sitting upright and placing a club on my shoulders, then whilst holding each end, I rotate my body to the left then back to the right. At first I felt uncomfortable and stiff, but after a week I started to feel much more flexible. I also incorporated some light sit-ups after each rotational exercise to increase my core strength and stability.

I have been trying to dramatically improve my golf game over the last year and have been accumulating tips from some of the best chaps at my golf club. What follows are in my opinion the top 5 golf instruction tips to improve your golf game exponentially.
When taking aim with your club make sure that your eyes remain fixed on the front of the ball rather than the clubs point of contact.
Decide where you want the ball to go and line up that point with the writing on the ball.
When driving, don’t smash the ball or crush it, this will only result in a poor shot. Generate power with a fluid action and smooth rotation of the mid-section. Always spend at least ten minutes practicing hitting the ball before you start a round.
When taking shots with irons, think about it as if you were scooping some earth with the shot – drive deep and hard. With low irons this will set the ball into a lift, carrying it into the direction of the target. This technique will stop your ball rolling along the fairway and accumulating more strokes.
Too many golfers guzzle cans of caffeinated drinks in the hope that it will miraculously improve their game or somehow increase golf swing speed. I tried this for a while until a pro told me the drinks would make me less relaxed and more highly strung. He was right; since I cut out those drinks my game has improved. Far better than caffeinated drinks are dried fruits and nuts that are easily consumed during play. Make sure you drink water regularly as you go around the course
I found that by implementing all these pointers my handicap increased, as did my overall enjoyment of the game.

We often forget that golf is just like any other sport and to optimize performance there are a number of health related disciplines to be focussed on to help improve golf game. The first thing to do is make sure that you have warmed up and prepared your body for the game ahead.
Stretching Will Improve Flexibility
Approximately half an hour before tee-off time I have developed a habit of doing some stretching and simple exercises. These include exercises such as hip rotations, arm raises and light squats – all perfect for a pre-game warm up. I finish up by using my seven iron to practice some light swings which helps my body get used to the movement before I go into a full swinging action. Stretching and exercising prior to playing will not only improve golf game but prevent you from sustaining muscle tears or ligament damage.
Keep Yourself Hydrated at all Times
Another major factor that golfers fail to take into consideration is water consumption. I consume at least a quarter of a litre of water before the game and keep consuming water after every hole. This will keep your muscles hydrated which will ultimately improve golf swing and your performance throughout the round.
Stretching On the Course
If you feel that your muscles (lower back and shoulders in particular) start becoming tight then don’t be afraid to stretch them out on the course. Too many people walk around feeling uncomfortable and I have never understood why, after all, stretching will help you relax and ultimately improve your game.

I think we could all do with some extra tips on how to improve golf game. When I first started playing I was unaware of just how essential certain techniques were to the general improvement of your golf game. After what seemed like months on end and a few unexpected bouts of frustration, someone kindly pointed out the errors in my game.
Improve Your Golf Swing
The first thing my mentor mentioned was that I needed to improve my golf swing. I was failing to maintain my wrist-cock throughout the duration of the swing. What I discovered was that effective swings usually happen when the left wrist is bent and the right becomes flexed, with both hands looking as if they are slightly in front of the golf ball just before the swing. Once I changed this minor fault I discovered a dramatically improved golf game.
Learn to Play Out of The Sand
The other major problem I was struggling with was sand play, and I must admit this took me a while to perfect. The first thing I did to improve golf game was to use a sand wedge for those shorter shots out onto the green. I then grasped the importance of applying the same amount of weight to each foot. I opened up the face of the club slightly allowing the rear end of the club to spring up off the sand, rather than having it drive into the sand as I was doing previously. Another key aspect here is to ensure you maintain a straight back for your backswing to follow through, this allows the hands to break as you engage the swing. The idea being that you lessen the impact on the sand without making contact with the ball, and just allow the sand to lift the ball from the bunker and out onto the green.

When I first stepped on the golf green and hit the ball as hard as I could down the green my friends started laughing. I thought it was a pretty good shot – even if it did only go half the distance of their shots.
I kept playing and I’m glad I did because I absolutely love playing golf now and when I play with my friends I always beat them! One thing I did to instantly improve my golf game without a lesson or new golf equipment was filling my mind with positive thoughts and encouraging beliefs that inspired me to play better golf.
I believe this is one of the best things you can do to improve golf game in every aspect. It will keep you passionate about practicing and becoming better, and not becoming frustrated when you just can’t get the ball to go where you want – most of the time anyway!
If you’ve never tried this, you will actually see and feel yourself making improvements in your golf game. Using positive thinking to improve your golf game or your life can be life changing.
When you use positive thoughts, words and images that relate towards your development and use them to inspire you to improve your game. Positive thinking on the golf course involves using positive affirmations and visualizations. Your goal is to eliminate any negativity in your mind. This is critical for you to do before you step into your pre-shot routine. If you are visualizing the ball curving off into the trees yet again, your result will probably be just that.
Many golfers I have met and talked too have heard about the benefits of positive thinking to improve their golf scores. Although, it amazes me that people that can run huge businesses and corporations and have had success at it, seem puzzled with the concept of positive thinking on the golf course.
Positive thinking on the golf course can be the major factor to bringing more success to everyone’s golf game – try it next time your on the green!
